These 7 European Cities Are Perfect for a Quick Getaway: A 48-Hour Itinerary

Ya know what? After trading my laptop for a passport, I’ve figured something out. Shorter trips hit different. While I’m usually found near an infinity pool with my latest read and some California wine, these quick European getaways keep calling me back.

Amsterdam: Bikes Everywhere (Like, Literally)

Last spring I ditched my usual beach spot and grabbed a bike instead. Amsterdam’s got these bike paths that go on forever – 400 km of them!

The coolest part? You could spend days just crossing bridges. There’s like 1,500 of them scattered all over. Me and my camera had a field day with that.

Want the real tea? Book yourself a houseboat. Nothing beats rolling outta bed and seeing ducks swim past your window. Sometimes I catch myself missing those mornings more than the fancy hotel pools.

Prague: Big Castle Energy

So there I was, standing in front of the largest ancient castle complex anywhere. Prague Castle is huge, y’all. But wait till you see this clock they got – been ticking since 1410!

Fun fact that blew my mind: theres this tiny street that’s basically the width of a pizza box. 19.6 inches! Had to walk sideways after eating too much goulash (worth it tho).

Barcelona: The Church That’s Taking Its Sweet Time

K so imagine starting to build something before phones existed… and still not being done. That’s La Sagrada Família for ya. 140+ years and counting!

One time I found this perfect cafe on Las Ramblas. The street goes on for over a kilometer, but somehow I always end up at that same spot. Weird how that happens right?

Edinburgh: Literally Built on Fire

Did anyone else know Edinburgh Castle sits on an actual volcano? (Don’t panic – its super dead.) After discovering hidden gems worldwide, this city still surprised me.

You could hit up a different bar every night for 2 years straight here. Trust – I almost tried. Almost.

Dubrovnik: Not Just For TV Fans

Listen – those walls around the old town? Better than any infinity pool view I’ve seen (and I’ve seen lots). They go on for 2 whole kilometers!

Between us? Skip the crowds and visit Europe’s oldest pharmacy. Been mixing potions since 1317. My skin care routine got a medieval upgrade that day.

Porto: Book Nerds Paradise

Ok so picture this – your chilling in the same bookstore where Harry Potter was born (kinda). JK Rowling used to write here and honestly? Makes total sense.

Plus the wine is chefs kiss. Way cheaper than my usual California picks too.

Ljubljana: The City Name Nobody Gets Right

Real talk – they’ve got more green space per person than anywhere else I’ve been. And I’ve been everywhere. 542 square meters each!

Best part? No cars allowed downtown. Perfect for someone like me who’s made wandering into an art form.

Pro tip from your resident globe-trotter: hit the castle at sunset. Those Alps views? Better than any five-star resort (and I’ve stayed at plenty).

Pick any of these spots and just go. Sometimes 48 hours is exactly what you need. Maybe start with Porto? The wine’s cheap and the views are free.

Between the fashion finds and design inspo I’ve collected across the globe, these quick European trips still top my list. Funny how that works.
