Okay so here’s the deal – I used to think I knew everything about traveling Europe. Boy, was I wrong! While I was chilling with my favorite California Chardonnay next to some fancy hotel’s infinity pool last month, I found these completely bonkers Airbnb spots that made me spit out my wine.
That Time Someone Turned a Plane Into a House
Get this – there’s this actual airplane in Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef (yeah thats a real place in France) where you can sleep. Not like, in airplane seats or whatever. The whole thing’s a house now! I had my morning coffee in the cockpit and lemme tell you, way better than first class.

A Giant Wine Barrel You Can Sleep In
K so in Ljubljana (don’t ask me how to say it), someone looked at a wine barrel and thought “yeah people could sleep there.” And you know what? They were right! Its in this super old building from like 300 years ago. Plus theres a wine tap RIGHT NEXT TO THE BED. Not even kidding.

This Bomb Shelter That’s Actually Super Nice?
So there’s this place in Vilnius where your staying in an old Soviet bomb shelter but like… make it fancy? It has a pool inside (what even) and these huge steel doors that make you feel like your in a movie. Fits 14 people which is wild if you think about it.

Space Pod but Make It Scottish
Up in Scotland theres this weird aluminum pod thing called AirShip 2. Sounds fake but its real! The views are insane – I literally dropped my wine when I saw the Sound of Mull from the window. Not my proudest moment but worth it tbh.

Live Your Dutch Windmill Dreams
Near Amsterdam you can stay in a actual windmill! After spending way too much time checking out Dutch design stores (my weakness besides food hunting), I gotta say the inside is just as cool as outside. Three whole bedrooms in a windmill!

A Crane House Because Why Not
Remember those building cranes that look super tall and scary? Yeah someone in Amsterdam made one into a house. Its hanging over this river called IJ and honestly the views are exactly as crazy as your thinking right now.

Literally a Cave But Make It Fancy
Get ready for this – theres this cave in France that’s an Airbnb. But not like a gross cave! It’s in the Loire Valley and you can see everything for miles. Plus there’s castles everywhere and so much wine tasting nearby that I had to stay extra days (oops).

A Bus That’s Actually a House
Some genius in Ireland looked at a double-decker bus and was like “I could live there.” Now it’s got these cozy beds and a wood stove and the worlds most amazing outdoor shower. Trust me – when the views that good, you don’t even care that your showering outside.
Wild Atlantic Bus in Oughterard, Ireland

All Glass Everything in Iceland
Wanna watch the Northern Lights or midnight sun from your bed? Cause theres this place in Iceland thats basically all glass. Summer’s weird cause the sun never sets but like… that’s kinda cool too right? Nature’s own light show!

Fancy Mountain Life in Austria
Real talk – I’ve stayed lots of places but these chalets in Tyrol hit different. Private saunas (because of course), cute little gardens, and mountains (snow-covered Kitzbuehlen Alps) that look fake but aren’t. My Insta followers kept asking what filter I used. Plot twist: didn’t use any!
Alpegg Chalets, Tyrol, Austria

Living That Art Life in Italy
During my three month “pasta research trip” (don’t judge), I found this amazing house in Umbria. Some artist lives there and built it with all this wood and glass. Sunday brunch there was basically art itself ngl.

Super Old But Super Cool Italian Spot
Speaking of Italy – theres this place from the 1780s in Puglia that someone fixed up real nice. Got three bedrooms (ones in this cool cone shaped building) and the perfect pool for reading all those books I pretend I’m gonna finish on vacation.

Beach House Goals in Montenegro
Right on Kotor Bay theres this villa where you can jump into the sea from like… your room basically. Kitchen’s so fancy I tried cooking local food. Key word: tried.

Rooftop Art You Can Sleep In
Someone in Rome put this wild art piece thing on their roof and lets people sleep in it. Its like if architecture had a dream and that dream was somewhere to crash.
Liveable Sculpture in Rome, Italy

Farm Life But Make It Dutch
There’s this earth house in the Netherlands where you can help milk cows if you want? Usually I’m more of a luxury pool person but sometimes you gotta try something different ya know?
Earth House in Heeten, Netherlands

An Actual Pyramid (But in Iceland)
For real – theres a pyramid in Iceland that fits 8 people. Way better than the Egypt ones cause this one has heat.
Pyramid Cottage in Laugarvatn, Iceland

Here’s the thing – ever since I quit my office job to travel full time, I learned the best places to stay are usually the weird ones. And get this – these places cost about the same as boring regular hotels!
Like why stay in hotel room #567 when you could sleep in a CRANE? Or a PLANE? Or a WINE BARREL?
Drop a comment and tell me the weirdest place you ever stayed at! I’m always looking for more crazy spots to add to my list (my bank account says stop but my heart says yes).
*Fun fact: my autocorrect had a meltdown trying to spell half these place names.*
